Work has already started on the construction of the Battle of Flowers arena along Victoria Avenue with the installation of the iconic Battle of Flowers Towers having taken place over the weekend. Over the coming 10 days further installation will take place with the delivery of the spectator seating and Grandstands, which will start arriving into the Island by sea as from 31st July Thanks to a sponsorship agreement , the 6-piece grandstands will be shipped to Jersey as a result of a sponsorship agreement by Condor Ferries. CEO of Condor Ferries, Paul Luxon, ” We recognise the Battle of Flowers is an iconic event in the local calendar and appreciates value to the Island. Condor transports the seating, funfair and acts, together with thousands of passengers for the Battle of Flowers each year with our relationship stretching back over 40 years. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to provide year-round, lifeline freight and passenger services to the Island.
Outside of the arena, the annual ‘Funtazia’ Funfair will be taking place in Peoples Park and as always, will be bringing many of its popular rides to this year’s show. The funfair will be officially opened on Friday 27 July at 2 pm by 2018 Battle Ambassador Arcadia Lockhart accompanied by her Junior Ambassador, Tobias Hosking. The funfair will be opened daily between Friday 27 July and Sunday 12 August.
Meanwhile, this year’s shows promises an eclectic mix of floral exhibits and arena entertainment. 24 floats will be taking part over the two days, with themes ranging from 1940’s nostalgia and World War remembrance to global discovery, fairy tales and flamboyant carnivals. Exhibitors across the Island are making their final structural additions to their floats before the task of flowering gets underway for fresh flowers, which is likely to being as from 1st August.
A new feature to the 2018 Battle of Flowers Show will be the introduction of the ‘Little Gig in Lower Park’, which will take place on Thursday afternoon following the conclusion of the Day Parade, between 4:30pm-8:30pm and again on Friday evening prior to the start of the Moonlight Parade. The stage entertainment programme, which has been arranged in association with 3rd Above Entertainment, will feature both local and visiting musical talent. Spectators in possession of a parade entry ticket can enjoy the free entertainment programme, and subject to numbers there may be a possibility of allowing members of the public in between 6.00 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. There will also be a number of catering and refreshment kiosks on site.
