Having worked hard for the past year the competitors in the 1999 Battle were provided with another wonderful day.
The beautiful weather enabled them to display their flowers to the best advantage. It was accepted as the best yet. All the usual names appeared together with a few new entries who did themselves real justice. For the first time for many years the Parish of St. Saviour entered together with the Ace of Clubs, Ian Rondel and Friends and the Barette Family and friends.
The Parish of St Clement took the Prix d'Honneur with 'Zanzibar'.
After intense competition amongst the larger floats the Parish of St. Clement with "Zanzibar" took the Prix d'Honneur and The Optimists gained the Prix d'Excellence with their float "The Lost Kingdom of Ice".
Nigel Gates with "Circus of Wonders" took the Prix d' Honneur de Papier, with the 3rd Jersey Boys Brigade entering "Bugs Life" winning the Prix d' Excellence de Papier. The new exhibitor award this year went to Ian Rondel and Friends with "Wizard of Oz".
The Optimists went home with the Prix d'Excellence for 'The Lost Kingdom of Ice'.
