For the first time in many years we were not blessed by warm sunshine for the Grand Day Parade on Thursday afternoon, or a warm summer breeze for the Moonlight Parade on Friday evening. However, with guests Sir Jimmy Savile and Sir Henry Cooper, we achieved a full Parish entry of 12 floats for the first time in our history. These floats, together with all those other stalwarts and new entries, allowed us to parade some 41 floats along our Victoria Avenue Parade Arena.
All our friends from Le Havre, Alderney, Sark, Spalding, Dover, Ramsgate and Bridgewater, together with The Derby Serenader's International Snowband, The band of the Royal Anglian, the Jersey Majorettes, The Dolphin Marching band, The Pegasus Drum and Amp, The Bugle band, The Royale Rangerettes, The 3rd Davyhulme Scout band, The Cheshire all Girls band, The Vision Twirlers, The Forum Marching Band, Run for Cover and The Acapella Brass, joined with the magnificent Band of the Island of Jersey to stage one of most successful parades ever.
St Clements Battle of Flowers Association won numerous awards including The Prix d'honneur.
The Optimists Club again presented a wonderful float, celebrating our centenary, "Carnival 100, Happy Birthday" and took The Prix d'Excellence.
They all appeared again for the Moonlight Parade, which is fast becoming just as popular to our visitors and our local spectators as the Grand Day Parade. What a wonderful sight to see everything illuminated and happy.
