One of Jersey’s most popular events in the Island’s comprehensive calendars of summer activities, The Jersey Battle of Flowers is delighted to announce its nominated charity for 2017 – Jersey Alzheimer’s Association.

“Battle of Flowers firmly believes it is important to support local community causes, and many people will be able to identify to the needs and challenges of this worthwhile charity”, says Battle of Flowers Chairman, Mo Le Var. He continues, “Having a large captive audience in the arena over the two days of the event together with the pre-publicity the Battle of Flowers generates we hope that the charity will benefit as much as our other previous charity partners, including Jersey Brain Tumour Association, British Red Cross Jersey, Diabetes and Jersey Cheshire Homes.”

Not only will Jersey Alzheimer’s Association have a presence at the two parades in August 2017 but they will also benefit from any funds raised by the sale of the official 2017 Battle of Flowers Programme, receiving 50p for every programme sold.

On behalf of Jersey Alzheimer’s Association, Mark Blamey, the charity’s Manager, says “I can see a particular synergy in working together with the organisers of the Jersey Battle of Flowers and we are delighted to have been chosen as their preferred charity partner for 2017. There is a clear overlap across the wide age range of those both taking part in and watching the Battle of Flowers Parades, for whom it is such an important tradition, and those to whom we offer practical help and support.  Strong and happy memories are associated with the Jersey Battle of Flowers over the years, as the principal tourist event for Jersey.  Our core purpose is to educate all Islanders about dementia; we want to create a ‘dementia friendly community’ in Jersey and a dementia friendly tourist destination.  This is a perfect opportunity to showcase what a dementia friendly Jersey is.”

Although tickets for this year’s two parades are now on sale the official programme will not be available until July 2017. In the meantime, anyone willing to assist the charity or the Battle of Flowers this year should contact Battle HQ by emailing
